KCNE1 and atrial fibrillation: Removal of these arginines by alanine-scanning in KCNE1-38S led to a comparable IKs phenotype as observed with the atrial fibrillation-related KCNE1-38G or the construct with N-terminal KCNE1 truncation – suggesting a link between a sterical KCNE1-38G alteration mediated by glycine (increasing protein mobility by formation of a glycine hinge) and a failure of N-terminal arginines to get in contact with the membrane.
