An expert committee of the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) responsible for laying down CPGs recommended that, for treatment of Type I and Type II Diabetes patients where there were problems of fasting hypoglycemia and/or problems controlling fasting plasma glucose, a new long acting insulin, insulin gargline, be used in preference to generic long-acting insulin in use till date (Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines Expert Committee, 2003).
