Seventeen tumors (16%) were ALT positive by standard techniques i.e. long and heterogeneous telomere lengths by TRF length analysis, the presence of large aggregates of the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) protein and telomere DNA called ALT-associated promyelocytic leukemia (PML) bodies (APBs) in >0.5% of tumor cells, and very low or no telomerase activity in tumor protein lysates by the TRAP assay [3], [8]. This evidence concerns the gene PML and neoplasm.
