This breeding produced a hybrid (BALB/cJ-C57BL/6J) NPC1 mouse model, for which the Npc1+/- mice were characterized with weight gain, abdominal adiposity, adipocyte hypertrophy, hepatic steatosis, plasma dyslipidemia, and impaired glucose tolerance in the absence of hyperphagia [76]. The gene discussed is NPC1; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
