Since hALKBH8 and NOX1 are immunohistochemically overexpressed in high-grade invasive urothelial carcinomas but not in low-grade non-invasive phenotypes, ROS generation through NOX1 plays an important role in the progression of bladder cancer, but not in carcinogenesis or the early stages of cancer development. The gene discussed is NOX1; the disease is urinary bladder cancer.
