Since hALKBH8 and NOX1 are immunohistochemically overexpressed in high-grade invasive urothelial carcinomas but not in low-grade non-invasive phenotypes, ROS generation through NOX1 plays an important role in the progression of bladder cancer, but not in carcinogenesis or the early stages of cancer development. Here, NOX1 is linked to urinary bladder carcinoma.
