In addition, we identified new malaria biomarkers such as LPS binding protein (LBP), apolipoprotein E (ApoE) and alpha-1-antitrypin as well as proteins that are absent in the malaria sample such as clusterin and complement B. Identification of new malaria biomarkers during malaria infection permit us to identify a specific protein profile signature that could be useful for the development of rapid diagnostic tests, and further our understanding in regard to the development of inflammatory-related malaria pathologies. The gene discussed is APOE; the disease is malaria.
