CDH1 and neoplasm: Expression of MUC1 may affect patient prognosis by inhibiting the formation of the E cadherin and β-catenin complex, which would decrease intercellular adhesion and promote the invasion and metastasis of tumors [21], by enhancing tumor cell invasiveness through the involvement of MUC1 in the cell signal transduction pathway that is controlled by platelet-derived growth factor β [22], and by increasing the resistance of tumor cells to cytotoxic chemotherapeutics like 5FU [23].
