There is conclusive evidence that the common expressed variant Y402H (rs1061170) in the CFH gene influences susceptibility to AMD (Klein et al. 2005; Haines et al. 2005; Edwards et al. 2005) with heterozygotes and homozygotes for the 402H allele being 2.5 and 6 times more likely to have AMD respectively (Thakkinstian et al. 2006). This evidence concerns the gene CFH and age-related macular degeneration.
