Pancreatic cancer cells secrete growth factors such as TGF-β1, PDGF and VEGF, as well as extracellular matrix (ECM) metalloproteinase inducers that transform the usually quiescent PaSC's into an activated myofibroblast-type phenotype and secrete excess amounts of ECM and matrix degrading enzymes [3], [4], [49] (reviewed in [50]). This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and pancreatic neoplasm.
