In one report, a MGMT germline polymorphism (rs16906252 C>T) located within the transcriptional enhancer element of the MGMT promoter was strongly associated with susceptibility to CpG island methylation and gene silencing in colorectal cancer (OR = 18.0; 95% CI:6.2–52.1, p<.0001) [17], [18]. The gene discussed is MGMT; the disease is colorectal cancer.
