International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials (INSIGHT)'s Strategic Timing of Antiretroviral Treatment (START) is an international randomised trial in 37 countries to determine if the chance of developing a serious illness or of getting AIDS is less if patients start taking HIV medicines at a time when their CD4 cell count is above 500 cells/mm3 rather than waiting for it to drop to 350 cells/mm3 [81]. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is AIDS.
