While we did not detect a change in the expression of DCX in the brains of people with schizophrenia, more sensitive or direct methods may be required to detect altered migration of neurons in the disease (which would likely affect a small population of the total number of neurons in the cortex) and further lines of evidence, such as altered IWMN density and positioning, and the involvement of several schizophrenia susceptibility genes in neuronal migration indicate that altered neuronal migration may be implicated in schizophrenia pathology. The gene discussed is DCX; the disease is schizophrenia.
