Given the critical role of Akt, ZEB1, and ZEB2 in cancer progression (Altomare and Testa 2005; LoPiccolo et al. 2008; Peinado et al. 2007), the findings from this study provide additional novel evidence that Akt activation may play an important role in arsenic lung carcinogenesis by promoting As-transformed HBEC migration and invasion. The gene discussed is ZEB1; the disease is cancer.
