MARK2 and cancer: The ability of MV to replicate in human cancer cells has been linked to the hyperactivation of an enzyme called serine/threonine kinase Akt in cancer cell lines and to a viral ankyrin-repeat protein NM-T5 (or M-T5, GenBank: AAC55050) which binds to Akt, and promotes its phosphorylation and activation in permissive cancers.
