An upregulation of autophagy in the presence of polyglutamine aggregates was suggested by the finding that mTOR is sequestered into aggregates in cells expressing exogenous mutant Htt, HD mouse models and brains of HD patients, which results in the loss of its catalytic activity and should lead to enhanced autophagosome formation (Ravikumar et al., 2004). Here, MTOR is linked to Huntington disease.
