DNA pol β is targeted for destruction by the E3 ubiquitin ligase CHIP under normal conditions but, when DNA damage occurs, it undergoes stabilization to increase the cellular capacity to perform BER [50,51].These data indicate that DNA pol β act as a determinant factor in both cell death and genetic changes associated with cancer [27] and pose DNA pol β as an attractive target for cancer therapy. This evidence concerns the gene STUB1 and cancer.
