IL10 and leprosy: The IL-10 cytokine has a key regulatory role and its encoding gene contains a SNP in the promoter region (-1082G/A) which results in a reduction in the production of IL-10 in P. falciparum malaria [23] and may contribute to the immunopathology of a number of infectious diseases as leprosy [24], Chlamydia trachomatis infection [25] and tuberculosis [21,26,27].
