VEGF is the best known angiogenic factor produced by tumours (it has mitogenic effects on endothelial cells and promotes vascular permeability), but recent studies [1] have also shown a direct autocrine role on HCC growth and aggressiveness (mitogenic effects on tumour cells, promotion of HCC de-differentiation, disruption of HCC cell tight junctions). Here, VEGFA is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
