Second, in an open field test, while gal-1-/- mice were generally more active (Figure 5D, time × genotype ANOVA, main effects of genotype F(1, 27) = 10.35, P < 0.01 and time F(8, 27) = 271.5, P < 0.001), the spatial distribution of activity was similar in WT and gal-1-/- mice suggesting that loss of gal-1 does not alter general anxiety levels (Figure 5E, zone × genotype ANOVA, no main effect of genotype F(1, 27) = 2.10, P = 0.16, main effect of zone only F(2, 27) = 660, P < 0.001).
