Adoptive transfer of ex vivo expanded γδ T cells (Kobayashi et al, 2007; Bennouna et al, 2008; Abe et al, 2009; Noguchi et al, 2011) and in vivo therapeutic manipulation of γδ T cells by phosphoantigens and aminobisphosphonates with low-dose IL-2, have been reported and demonstrate potential anti-tumour activities of γδ T cells in patients with lymphoid malignancies (Wilhelm et al, 2003) and prostate cancer (Dieli et al, 2007).
