TOPBP1 (topoisomerase DNA II-binding protein 1) represents a very interesting candidate for CRC genetic susceptibility as it contains multiple BRCT domains, the C-terminal portion of the BRCA-1 gene, and it has a critical role in the control of DNA damage and replication checkpoint (Gong et al, 2010). The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
