BNP >76 pg/mL OR=2.3 (95%CI, 1.4-3.7, P=0.001); and D-dimer >0.96 microg/mL OR=2.2 (95%CI, 1.4-3.7, P=0.001) were independent predictors of CE stroke and even among patients with transient symptoms (n=155), a high BNP level identified CE etiology (OR= 6.7, 95%CI, 2.4-18.9; P<0.001).
