Treatment of BPH and CaP derived primary epithelial cultures with 0.6 μM TSA and 10 mM NaBu (a less potent and specific HDAC inhibitor) also resulted in overexpression of CD133 mRNA (Figure 6C-D) after 48 hours, in agreement with a clear role for condensed chromatin structure in maintaining CD133 repression in both cell lines and primary samples. This evidence concerns the gene HDAC9 and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
