The major limbic structures, including the amygdaloid complex, dentate gyrus of the hippocampus, medial prefrontal cortex, hypothalamic mammillary and supramammillary nucleus, and NAc, all express CART mRNA and protein (Figure 1), suggesting a potential role for CART in the treatment of psychiatric disorders in which stress responses, mood and reward processes are involved [10, 30, 48, 49, 86–90]. This evidence concerns the gene CARTPT and psychiatric disorder.
