The human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum contains three genes encoding potential GDH proteins; two are found on chromosome 14 (PF14_0164 and PF14_0286, encoding GDHa and b, respectively) and one is present on chromosome 8 (PF08_0132 encoding GDHc) [2,3]. The gene discussed is H6PD; the disease is malaria.
