WNK2 and lip and oral cavity carcinoma: While in normal cells, stimulation with proinflammatory cytokines leads to growth inhibition, in oral cancer cells stimulation with proinflammatory cytokines leads to up regulation of positive cell cycle regulators such as nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) and mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated (ERK) pathway.
