VIM and rheumatoid arthritis: A number of antibodies in sera of RA patients, such as anti-perinuclear factor, anti-keratin antibody, anti-Sa antibody (Sa antigen has been suggested to be identical to citrullinated vimentin), anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies and anti-citrullinated fibrinogen (CitFib) antibody, are produced early in the progression of the disease and are more specific for RA than rheumatoid factor [14], [15], [29], [30].
