In most types of carcinoma, its expression is inhibited with growing histological malignancy in the tumor development, however it may result in different outcomes in some carcinomas, as in the process from normal esophageal epithelium to atypically hyperplastic epithelium then to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in esophageal carcinoma, there the initial up-regulation of caspase-3 expression is followed by a down-regulation, leading to overexpression of caspase-3 in esophageal carcinoma, while in malignant lymphoma and medulloblastoma, the expression increases with the evolving malignancy. This evidence concerns the gene CASP3 and medulloblastoma.
