An enhanced turn-over rate of the p53 protein and the pleiotropic effects consequence of the increased number of 14-3-3ζ proteins, which are involved in a large number of cellular processes, could be the reason why not all infections develop into cancer and most of them are subclinical: c-Myc could be activating 14-3-3ζ in a differential manner. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is cancer.
