More recently, two trials of CD combined with artesunate (CDA) [8.9], showed clearly that malaria patients with G6PD A- deficiency who were treated with CDA were more likely to develop severe anaemia following treatment than G6PD deficient patients treated with SP+AQ [8] or AL [9] and in light of these findings further development of CDA (Dacart) was stopped and CD (Lapdap) was withdrawn by GSK [2]. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is anemia (phenotype).
