Double-staining experiments with pan-CK and Twist antibodies revealed that all patients with metastatic disease had detectable double-stained cells and that CK+/Twist+ cells could be detected in 16 (72.7%) of 22 patients with early stage breast cancer (P = 0.037) (Figure 2A, graph I, and Table 2).
