Given the existing evidence for population heterogeneity in association of SLC2A9 variants (intronic and R265H) with gout [8,11-13], we investigated a possible role for R265H (rs3733591) in gout in NZ Māori, Pacific Island and Caucasian case-control sample sets in a study adequately powered to detect an effect equivalent to that observed in other populations (odds ratio (OR) > 1.4). Here, SLC2A9 is linked to gout.
