Genomewide association studies in Caucasian cohorts have shown that intronic variants (rs7442295 and surrogate marker rs11942223) within the solute carrier family 2, member 9/facilitated glucose transporter 9 (SLC2A9/GLUT9) gene are associated with high serum urate concentrations and gout [5-10]. The gene discussed is SLC2A9; the disease is gout.
