Alzheimer's disease (AD) is pathologically characterized by the deposition and accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptide in extracellular plaques, the deposition of hyperphosphorylated tau in intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFT's), oxidative stress and synaptic loss. This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
