Although DC were cultured with both IL-3 and GM-CSF, at concentrations that maintain cell viability and allow for some maturation of DC [23,24], thymic and blood mDC had a lower viability than thymic and blood pDC (as determined by flow cytometry live gating analysis using forward and side scatter parameters) following 5 days of cell culture and infection with either R5 or X4 virus, (p = 0.06; Figure 3C). The gene discussed is CSF2; the disease is infection.
