GABRA1 and epilepsy: Although some microdeletions may be chance findings, large microdeletions are likely to be associated with disease (Scheffer & Berkovic, 2010), and we showed changes in gene expression with 16p13.11 microdeletions, and noted that many known epilepsy genes, for example, KCNA1, GABRA1, and GABRG2, can be involved in microdeletions (Heinzen et al., 2010).
