Interestingly, a small subset of genes was found to be common to the stromal reaction of both tumor types and included, among others, genes encoding adhesion and cytoskeletal proteins (CDH11, MYO5B), a master regulator of differentiation processes, cell transformation, and tumor progression (RUNX1), as well as the osteoblast-specific factor periostin (POSTN). Here, POSTN is linked to neoplasm.
