Consistent with these findings of reduced oxidative stress under relatively mild hypoxia, we observed a significant reduction in avidin-FITC staining, which detects oxidatively modified DNA base 8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG), in the thymus of p53−/− mice chronically adapted to hypoxia prior to the overt development of lymphoma (Figure 2C). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is lymphoma.
