When systemic inflammation was analyzed we observed an increase (~ 3-fold) in neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio from mice with atherosclerosis compared to C57 in both control (ApoE: 0.17 ± 0.01 versus C57: 0.06 ± 0.01; p < 0.05) and infected (ApoE: 0.17 ± 0.02 versus C57: 0.05 ± 0.001; p < 0.05) animals (Figure 2). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and atherosclerosis.
