Our finding of a complete lack of β-amyloid plaques and Tau-associated neurofibrillary tangles in the 18-month old control mice lends additional support to the notion that the histologically- confirmed presence of this AD-related neuropathology in the AD mouse model strains used here can not explain the observed age-related olfactory impairment (Fig. 6).
