Studies on the neurodegenerative diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) have suggested a role for VEGF-A in the pathogenesis of these diseases and a genetic association between VEGF-A variants and these diseases has been demonstrated [12], [13], [14], [15], [16], [17], [18]. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
