PML and acute myeloid leukemia: APL is classified as AML M3 in the French-American and British (FAB) classification and represents approximately 5-10% of all leukemia in adults.[1] Indian data on this malignancy are however, limited.[2] In about 95-98% of cases, APL is associated with the reciprocal translocation, t(15; 17)(q22; q21) and the reciprocal fusion of the retinoic acid receptor (RAR)α gene on chromosome 17 with the promyelocytic leukemia (PML) gene on chromosome 15.
