The intent of this study was to compare biomarker responses to a mixed-meal breakfast after 24 weeks of treatment with two insulin regimens and to test the hypothesis that controlling post-meal hyperglycaemia with prandial + basal insulin attenuates the meal-induced increases in hsCRP, interleukin-6, TNF-α, methylglyoxal and 3-deoxyglucosone more than basal insulin in patients with Type 2 diabetes. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
