AFP and Pelizeaus-Merzbacher spectrum disorder: When the prenatal characteristics of PMD, such as an elevated AFP and normal hCG level in the mother, a normal female karyotype revealed by amniocentesis, and dilated subchorionic vessels revealed by ultrasonography during the third trimester, are detected, termination of the pregnancy at an optimal time could be considered, since sudden IUFD including rupture of the cirsoid chorionic vessels might occur at any time throughout gestation.
