Our screen isolated two known PD-interacting genes drp1 and Opa1. drp1 encodes a GTPase (i.e. the dynamin-related protein 1) that has been previously implicated in regulating mitochondrial fission [35], while opa1 (optic atrophy 1) encodes for another dynamin-related GTPase that promotes mitochondrial fusion [36,37]. Here, OPA1 is linked to Parkinson disease.
