Recent updating of breast cancer classification, based on gene expression profile analyses, has indicated that MBCs can be considered as part of the basal-like carcinoma spectrum made up of the estrogen receptor (ER) negative-, progesterone receptor (PR) negative-, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2)-negative tumors (‘triple-negative phenotype’) (14-17).
