SRF and bacterial infectious disease: To test the effects of bacterial infection on the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton, we screened a panel of gastrointestinal tract-associated bacterial pathogens including Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), Adherent Invasive E. coli (AIEC), Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium), and a non-pathogenic E. coli K12 for the ability to induce the nuclear accumulation of the SRF co-factor MAL.
