Recently, two new studies have also reported that the peptidoglycan receptor NOD2, whose gene is considered a susceptibility locus for Crohn's disease, is linked to autophagy by recruiting ATG16L1 at the site of the microbial entry within the infected cell [21], directing microbial engulfment in the autophagosome and inducing antigen presentation [20]. The gene discussed is NOD2; the disease is Crohn disease.
