EBNA1 recruits the host CK2 kinase to phosphorylate promyelocytic leukaemia nuclear protein (PML, also known as TRIM19 and RNF71) nuclear bodies (PML-NBs), and this phosphorylation leads to PML disruption through the ubiquitination pathway mediated by the ubiquitin-specific protease 7 (USP7, also known as herpesvirus-associated ubiquitin-specific protease (HAUSP)) in NPC cell lines [58,59] (Figure 2).
