Previously, we evaluated methylation levels of 17 intragenic L1 lociand found that the L1 methylation levels of L1-EPHA3-IVS5 and L1-EPHA3-IVS15 arestrongly correlated in cancer cells, suggesting locus specific mechanism [18].Measurement of intragenic L1-EPHA3 methylation and EPHA3 mRNA levels in head andneck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) cell lines (WSU-HNs) revealed that lowerlevels of intragenic L1-EPHA3-IVS5 and L1-EPHA3-IVS15 methylation correlatedwith lower EPHA3 mRNA levels (Pearson r = 0.7961 and0.7638, respectively; Fig.2D). The gene discussed is EPHA3; the disease is cancer.
