Despite the proven clinical benefit of the VEGF monoclonal antibody Bev (with chemotherapy) in prolonging progression-free survival of patients with metastatic CRC, the benefit of therapy is short-lived (∼1–4 months), and the vast majority of patients eventually progress (Hurwitz et al, 2004; Giantonio et al, 2007; Saltz et al, 2008). This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and colorectal carcinoma.
